SUSTAINABLE BY DESIGN

Beyond the global vision of all the objectives of sustainable development, it is important to do the individual exercise and think about how we apply them in our daily lives. Because sustainability is a way of living and relating to our environment. Decent work and economic growth is Goal 8 of the SDGs. Goal 8: Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all. Its definition incorporates the following principle: “Inclusive and sustained economic growth can drive progress, create decent jobs for all and improve living standards”. In our case, at CC SUTAINABLE, we design a sustainable economic structure for our work organisation. We make economy of space, use of energy and complement our professional life with our social and family roles. At the same time, being women the precursors of the professional space, we try to coordinate our professional life with our family life, generating quality spaces to develop in all our roles. We are not a formal company, but a group of professionals with common interests, this allows us to sell services at the fair price of remuneration for the professional hours allocated to the work, without additional percentages, benefits or charges. We charge for the service provided, each one in their role. With this we ensure adequate remuneration to the experience and professional dedication and a great teamwork, where each one gives the best of himself in the role he occupies in each service. We are sustainable in our philosophy, we live from our professional work, favouring fair remuneration for the professional work provided, synergising team cooperation and distributing time and space between professional and personal life in order to promote a better quality of life.

ADAPTATION. THE KEY IS TO ADAPT

We believe that the design of infrastructure, productive and commercial projects should be based on integration with the system where they are implemented, in line with natural systems, placing value on ecosystem services. Nothing very new, but sometimes little practised. Throughout our years of work in countless projects and many different activities, we have understood that natural systems are highly resilient, that millions of years of evolution give them unique capacities to integrate and adapt in the face of change. We believe that adaptation processes to climate change must be based on natural resilience and therefore the most successful solutions will be those based on these principles: nature-based solutions. We strongly believe that projects can be sustainable and integrated into the environment and that they can be productive, efficient and cost-effective. Our experience gives us knowledge of the processes of gestation, construction and operation of large infrastructure projects, understanding that participatory processes and early incorporation of socio-environmental integration criteria are fundamental for success. We are also aware of the new sustainable markets, where attributes based on natural solutions have a high market value, where climate actions imply profitability and early knowledge of the conditions of the site where the project is implemented imply great investment savings. We want to accompany the design of projects that are integrated into the world we live in, that benefit from it and that are sustainable in time and space. We know what the weaknesses are because we have been working for more than 20 years in the development of large projects, we know what we are talking about. We are many professionals from different disciplines working collectively, interdisciplinary, to give an integrated vision to the projects, because the world is diverse and so should be the way we look at it.

“BE GREEN TO SELL GREEN”

In order to be suppliers of sustainable products to the market, it is necessary to prove that the process to obtain these products or services is sustainable: “BE GREEN TO SELL GREEN”. This implies that it is not enough to declare an intention, a vision, an idea and an objective; it is also necessary to demonstrate that the path that leads us to sustainability has also been built on criteria of respect and socio-environmental protection. Life cycle certification, and responsible use of nature’s resources, are some of the ways to do this. There are also ways to socialise supplier or material selection processes that denote this principle of integrating the concept of sustainability throughout the entire design and production process of a product, service or project. Knowing and communicating the stages and steps that lead a product or service to become sustainable is fundamental, it generates trust and loyalty and demonstrates a central change in the productive culture, linked to the genuine path towards sustainability, which is built slowly but steadily and which defines the way in which we integrate ourselves into the environment in which we develop. Each situation, each product, service or project is particular and there are specific strategies that can be designed and applied in order to bring them onto the path of commitment to sustainable development.
